Pillar 4 · Focus area 1 of 2

Product Transferability

Assess whether the knowledge, systems, context and operational understanding required to run and continue developing the product can be effectively transferred to another owner or team.

This focus area belongs to the Coppice Labs Audit for digital-product exit readiness. It sits within Transferability, Pillar 4 of 5.

Why it matters

A product may be technically sound but still be difficult to acquire if critical product knowledge, decisions, workflows or operational context are inaccessible or concentrated in individuals. Transferability provides confidence that the product can continue to operate and evolve after ownership changes.

The conclusion we need

Determine whether another capable owner or team could obtain, understand and use the product knowledge, decision context, systems and operational assets needed to run, troubleshoot, release and continue developing the product without material reconstruction or reliance on undocumented explanation.

What we examine

The questions we will answer

  1. Could another capable team understand how the product works, why key decisions were made and what is needed to continue developing it?
  2. Could another capable team operate, troubleshoot and release the product using the current documentation, systems and access?
